Destinations

Since its launch journey to Istanbul in
1883, the Orient Express has served a
host of different destinations.
Venice, Belgrade, Vienna and Bucharest
were all part of its early network.
Sister services led to Berlin, Baghdad
and Cairo. The two World Wars,
revolutions and the Cold War were to
affect these routes: while new cities
were added, some were swiftly axed.
Big changes were to transform Europe in
1989 with the fall of the Iron Curtain.
This has led to the return of several of
the train’s earliest routes. The Venice
Simplon-Orient-Express has now added
Prague, Budapest, Krakow and Dresden to
its list of destinations. And in 2010 it
went to Amsterdam on a private charter
for the very first time. |

Cabins
Traveling in private cabins impeccably
restored to their former glory,
passengers are assured of a truly unique
travel experience complemented by the
very best personal service.
Each cabin has an original washbasin
cabinet with hot and cold water, and at
night-time becomes a comfortable
bedroom, complete with soft towels and
crisp linen. Cabins convert in moments
from daytime seating to a luxurious
bedroom, all performed by cabin stewards
whilst passengers enjoy a gourmet dinner
in the restaurant car.
Double Cabins feature a single cabin
room, whilst our Cabin Suites feature
the ultimate luxury of two
inter-connecting cabins. Toilet
facilities are available in each
carriage, luxuriously appointed and
maintained to the highest standards by
our stewards. |

Our Carriages

The carriages of the Venice
Simplon-Orient Express are individually
designed and each has played a
significant role in the golden age of
luxury train travel during the 1920s to
30s. Every carriage has been lovingly
restored to its former glory, with $16
million spent on recreating one of the
finest luxury travel experiences the
world has ever seen.
Each of the carriages has its own
personal story, from transporting
European royalty across the continent
and being shot at during World War II,
to being caught in a snow drift for 10
days and inspiring the events in Agatha
Christie's Murder on the Orient Express.
