Glenkinchie Distillery and Rosslyn Chapel Tour

Experience the making of Whisky and the search for the Holy Grail

This tour departs from the Scotline office at 87 High Street on the Royal Mile at 10.15hrs. We travel East to the charming East Lothian village of Pencaitland, where Glenkinchie Distillery is situated. This is the only remaining Malt Whisky Distillery in the Edinburgh area. It is surrounded by the rolling hills and fresh water burns of the Lammermuir Hills whose soft waters contribute to the classic taste of this fine malt whisky. On our guided tour we will learn about traditional distilling methods and have a chance to sample Scotland 's national drink. After we leave the Distillery we will drive through pretty countryside to our stop for lunch. Our next stop is Rosslyn Chapel. The Chapel is unique and known world wide for its beauty, its carvings and of course the aura of mystery and magic which is present in this magnificent building. Also with its Masonic and Knights Templar Associations and the legend of the Holy Grail. This is further enhanced by the recent best selling book and the movie "The Da Vinci Code". After a day spent in fascinating company we arrive back in Edinburgh for 16.00hrs.

Find out...

Who was responsible for The Great Stink in 1858?
What was Sir Christopher Wren doing in that basket?

And who would want to hide under the King's bed?

It was said of Old London Bridge that ´it was made for wise men to go over and fools to go under´. The river ran very fast through its 19 arches and boatmen had to be very skillful not to get dashed to pieces shooting through. It was much safer to walk across the bridge!

In the 1660s London Bridge was the only bridge across the river. Houses and shops were built on it and the heads of traitors were stuck on spikes at the entrance as a warning to others.
